AJAX Navigation

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Ajax, when implemented correctly, is a beautiful thing. But I hate hate hate hate AJAX when it becomes a major part of the navigation of pages and breaks the very basic FRONT and BACK buttons of browsers. The perfect example is blogspot.com.

So there I am, reading wonderful entries by some random strangers on web and scrolling all the way down on his/her entry to find older posts. I then click on “previous entries” and oops, I just see something interesting on the previous page, but I already click the link. What would an user do? Oh I don’t know, hit the “back button”? But guess what, where would blogspot take you if you use the back button? The page before you entered the blogspot.

Oops.

Sighs.
