My XFX 7900 GT

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I bought an XFX Nvidia 7900 GT video card for my computer a few months back to play games like World of Warcraft aka WoW and Rainbow Six Vegas. While the card was running OK on most occasions, I started to experience glitches like texture loss and slowness in performance. The slowness is NOT due to network connection lag, but from the video card.

At first, I was thinking that the card was overheating, so I opened up the computer case to allow more ventillation and tuned down the speed on both the memory and the GPU through using Coolbits. A side note — I never did overclock the card as it was performing to my standards.

Regardless, my several attempts at cooling the card were futile. They would only prolong the time my 7900GT reaching that weird state of texture loss and general graphical slowness. At that juncture, I decided to check out XFX’s web site to see what kind of support they have. To my delight, they have an easy ticket reporting system and the technicians are quite respondent. After a few exchanges and tests which they asked me to do, they determined that I needed to send my video card in to get a replacement.

While logging in and out of XFX’s web site, I found out that all their video cards are backed with “Double Life Time” warranty.

How does that work? You ask.

Say you are the first owner of the card, and you decided to Ebay or sell it to someone else, the 2nd owner would be able to get the warranty transferred to him! How awesome is that?!

Anyway, I am expecting the card to come back to me in 2 days. Will report back then.
